During your consultation, your hairstylist will ask specific questions. Answer them truthfully. Be open to taking suggestions from the hairdresser. Be realistic in the hairstyle that you are asking for. Find out if the hairdresser is experienced in giving you the type of hairstyle that you are requesting. You should also discuss what you don’t like such as cutting the hair too short or use of a specific hair color. You should discuss the type of shampoo and conditioner as well as other hair products and hairstyling aids. Find out from the hairdresser how much time will be spent on fixing your hair. Talk about what type of styling makes you uncomfortable. For example, some women find it uncomfortable to stay under a hair dryer for more than thirty minutes. Some will hate the use of a blow dryer. If you have had a bad experience from chemical products, be sure to mention this.

If you are unsure about something, don’t be afraid to ask. You want to ensure that both you and your hairstylist are on the same page. You cannot expect the hairdresser to read your mind. Take part in the consultation by asking as many questions as it will take to come to an agreement of what you want. If you are asking a broad question such as the difference between two hair procedures, then allow the hair professional to find out exactly what you mean. If you have questions about price, make sure you get that out of the way before the hairdresser begins to provide service.

 

The Qualification

If you are not sure of the hairdresser’s qualification, ask for credentials and years of experience as well as training received. If your hairstylist is upset about this question, you may need to go elsewhere. It is your right as a consumer or client to know these things.
