Hot Oil Treatments

Life is ridiculously busy these days, with many people working more than one job, going to school, taking care of kids and various errands, it is easy to forget to pamper yourself a bit. Some people are so busy these days they don’t even make it in on a regular basis for a haircut. Neglecting these simple things can have a huge impact on your hair’s health and how you look, which in turn can affect how you feel about yourself. No matter how busy life is, make sure to schedule in the appropriate amount of time and energy into self care.

One thing that is simple to do and can help improve your hair’s shine and gloss, as well as restore some nutrients to the strands, is a hot oil treatment. You have probably heard about these somewhere and thought, that sounds nice but I don’t have time. Or maybe you thought they were probably some complicated procedure. We have good news! They don’t actually take that long, they are simple, and relatively inexpensive depending on what oils you decide to use!

When you are getting ready for your hot oil treatment, it is important to have clean hair before beginning. Don’t use any products on your hair before starting because it can prevent the oil from moisturizing your hair properly. A great choice for your oil is coconut oil as it has many admirable properties that can help restore your hair. You can also use olive, jojoba, avocado, or almond oils. If you want, you can make a blend of them all even. You will gently heat your oils to a warm temperature. This can be done in a microwave or by placing the oils in a bowl inside a pot of hot water for a while.

Once the oils are warm but not hot enough to burn you, lean over the sink, or do the treatment in the shower, and gently pour the oils over your hair until it is saturated. Once you have enough oil in your hair gently massage the oil into every strand and into your scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap to keep the oil from dipping and let it work into your hair for twenty to thirty minutes before gently washing with shampoo and conditioning your hair.

That’s all there is to it! You can work hot oil treatments into your routine about once a month to keep your hair luscious, soft, and shiny! This can help keep your hair in better condition between seeing your stylist and having your hair trimmed and taken care of professionally!
