Bad Habits That Are Keeping Your Hair Unhealthy (Pt. 1)

Most ladies, and many men, take pride in their hair and how it looks. Not only do they want it to look nice, they want it to be nice. Hair isn’t something that you can do whatever you want to, and have no consequences. The way you treat it, nourish it, and style it all have big impacts on how healthy, luscious, and shiny it is. So what are some of the things that you do everyday that is sabotaging your dream of the perfect locks? Check out some of the things listed below to find out if you need to make some adjustments in how you are treating your hair!

Skipping Meals...Particularly Breakfast

Yes, we all have heard that skipping meals is a bad way to try to lose weight, you get too hungry and overeat later, but did you know it can actually impact the health of your hair? It is true! Skipping breakfast means that your body isn’t taking in any nutrients for hours and hours (depending on when you ate dinner and when you went to bed) which means that your body isn’t going to have what it needs to keep your hair healthy. Mornings are rough, we get it, but making time for at least a quick, healthy bite is vital to a healthy you and your healthy hair!

Tying It Up Regularly And Tying It Up Tight

Ponytails are great for when you want to get your hair out of your face and look stylish while doing it. One thing they aren’t great for is everyday wear because the band you are using can very well damage your hair if it is too tight, or you frequently put it in the same spot. Thin bands are particularly bad for your hair or ones made of nylon. If you want to put your hair up, use bands that are wider and covered in fabric to save your hair from breakage and irritation.

Improper Brushing Techniques

The first thing to mention about brushes is that you need to clean them. Using a dirty brush on clean hair doesn’t make a lot of sense. Bacteria can grow on your brush and you just don’t need that in your life. Clean your brush at least once a month. Other than that, make sure you are brushing correctly. Start at the ends and slowly work your way up to avoid knotting up your hair, causing breakage, and pulling and stressing your scalp.
