Hair Care Tips Pt.1: Summer Edition

The seasons all present their own types of challenges for your beauty routine. Winter typically drys everything out, summer scorches the life out of get the picture. Because of the differences in the weather, you need to adapt your hair care routine to target the biggest problems of each season to ensure the best care for your hair and to promote hair health. So what specifically should you be doing or thinking of during the summer months? Check out the hair care tips below to get started!

Use a cover up.

We aren't talking about makeup here. Use a scarf (silk is amazing for your hair) or hat to cover your head and hair when you are going to be out in the sun for long periods of time, or even shorter ones! The sun's rays can do a lot of damage to your hair and scalp if left to their mercy. By covering up your head you are also helping your scalp to retain important and much needed moisture. Using a cover up or hat can also help prevent the damage of your hair getting tangles in the wind and breaking when you try to brush through all of those tangles!

Not so much shampooing.

Yep, we said it. Stop washing your hair every day! Too much washing will strip your hair and scalp of natural oils that are produced to protect your hair and scalp! Now, this doesn't mean stop washing it completely. It is important to give your hair a good wash every few days or every other day (depending on your hair type and other factors), to get rid of any buildup from products and keep your scalp feeling fresh and clean. Try just rinsing your hair on your off days of shampooing to wash out extra oil or ocean water.

Use some sunscreen.

Sunscreen is a must for strong and healthy hair all summer long. There are shampoos with UV protection that you can look into or other products that can help protect your hair in similar ways, but be careful to choose only high quality products that are going to really help your hair and not end up doing more harm than good. If you want a more simple solution, run your hands lightly through your hair after applying sunscreen to your skin. Again, be careful of the type and quality of sunscreen you are using on yourself!
