Simple Tricks to Add Volume to Your Hair
No one wants flat hair. When your hair becomes flat, it will lie closer to your head where it projects a dull appearance. While flat hair is frustrating, though, there are ways to overcome it. Flatness is attributed to a lack of volume. By adding volume to your hair, you can protect it from flatness. How do you add volume to your hair exactly?
Use a Volumizing Shampoo
There are certain types of shampoos that are designed specifically to add volume. Known as volumizing shampoos, they contain ingredients that lift your hair. Volumizing shampoos aren't the same as conditioners. Conditioners generally coat your hair to make it thicker. In comparison, volumizing shampoos work to raise your hair so that it's more voluminous.
Brush It
Brushing can add volume to your hair. Using a soft-bristle brush, start at the base of your scalp and brush outwards towards the ends of your hair. Keep in mind that your hair should be completely dry for maximum volume-adding benefit. If you just got out of the shower, blow-dry your hair before attempting to brush it.
Consider Coloring
Another way to increase your hair's volume is to get it colored. Highlights, for example, create the illusion of volume. They'll enhance your hair's natural color while making it look more voluminous in the process. Other coloring services can have a similar effect. They'll create the appearance of more voluminous and lustrous hair by changing or enhancing its color.
Get a Trim
In addition to coloring, a trim can have a positive impact on your hair's volume. Long hair is more likely to suffer from flatness than short hair. As your hair grows, it will become flatter due to its increased weight. You can counter this effect, however, by getting your hair trimmed. You don't have to choose a short pixie cut. Rather, taking just a few inches off the ends is often enough to increase your hair's volume.
Wash Your Pillowcase
It may sound unusual, but washing your pillowcase can help. Flatness is often caused by the accumulation of oils. Hair follicles contain glands that are responsible for producing oils. These oils nourish and moisturize your hair so that it doesn't become dry. Unfortunately, the accumulation of natural oils can create the appearance of flat and dull hair, which is why it's a good idea to wash your pillowcase. Your pillowcase will accumulate oils from your head during the nighttime hours, and if you don't wash it, these oils will transfer onto your hair.
